The Freedom Perspective
This first post is an introduction to what you can expect from the content moving forward. Let me start with a bit about myself. My name is Matt, and while I’ve built a career in cybersecurity, my true passion lies in current events, politics, and philosophy. The Freedom Perspective is my way of channeling that passion and sharing my thoughts with others.
At the core of my beliefs are individual liberty, personal responsibility, and limited government. These values have been the foundation of Western civilization for centuries, and I believe they’re more important than ever as we face today’s challenges. In my view, freedom thrives when the government’s role is minimal, allowing people the space to make decisions for themselves. As Thomas Paine opined in Common Sense, “Society in every state is a blessing, but government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one; for when we suffer, or are exposed to the same miseries by a government, which we might expect in a country without government, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer.” Paine’s words remind us that the greatest tragedies arise when the very system designed to protect us instead becomes the source of our suffering—made worse by the fact that it is built with our consent.
I launched The Freedom Perspective because I feel we’ve reached a critical moment. The West is facing threats to some of its most fundamental principles—free speech, individual rights, and economic freedom. Authoritarianism is on the rise, and government control is expanding into areas that should be left to individuals. Now more than ever, I believe it’s vital to reassert the values of liberty and personal freedom.
My goal with this blog is to cut through the noise and offer a clear, principled take on political events, policies, and philosophical debates. I want to engage with readers who care about liberty and spark discussions that challenge the status quo. While my views come from a libertarian/conservative perspective, I’m not here to preach to the choir. I welcome different viewpoints and meaningful debate.
It’s hard to ignore that the West, once a beacon of freedom and prosperity, seems to be in decline. We’re more divided than ever, and governments are tightening their grip on areas of life that should remain in our hands. Free speech, a cornerstone of Western civilization, is under threat from all sides—whether from state actors or corporate censorship. Economically, we’re burdened with debt and inefficiencies that are holding back innovation and growth.
I hope The Freedom Perspective can become a space where like-minded individuals can come together to think critically about the issues of our time and advocate for solutions grounded in liberty. Whether you’re someone who’s already deeply engaged in political debates or just curious to learn more, I encourage you to join me on this journey. Together, we can defend the principles that have made the West strong and, hopefully, help ensure they endure.
Matt
